BAE surfaces with Navy submarine weapon systems deal

BAE Systems will deliver system integration support for the weapon systems of the Navy's Trident II and nuclear-powered guided missile submarines through a $71.7 million contract.

The contract covers a range of services, including system engineering, test and analysis, IT and logistics. The contract value might reach $165.6 million, if all options are exercised, the company said.

In support of the Trident II fleet ballistic missile strategic weapon system program, BAE will modify and update system test procedures and participate in weapon system testing during overhaul, refitting and back fitting.

In the course of this work, the company will handle a wide range of work ranging from systems coordination and technical documentation to information system and configuration and logistics management.

BAE also will furnish technical services for Tomahawk Land Attack Missile-nuclear support and advanced system studies, weapon system underwater launch technology, life extension systems engineering and Trident submarine operation and employment studies.

Company employees located in Silver Spring, Md., will perform most of the work.

BAE Systems has 88,000 employees and had annual sales of $22 billion in fiscal 2005. The company ranks No. 11 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
