Needing help processing more than 70,000 applications annually, the Florida Financial Services Department has tapped L-1 Identity Solutions Inc. to put in place a fingerprint processing network for insurance agents.

Terms of the five-year, $22 million contract call for Integrated Biometric Technology LLC, an L-1 Identity Solutions unit, to install an automated applicant processing system to log and administer the fingerprints of insurance agents.

The system will be fully operational by January, the company said. By setting up fingerprint processing sites throughout Florida, the company will make accessing the system more convenient for users, as well as lay the foundation for a potential system expansion to handle more than 900,000 applicants statewide.

Integrated Biometric Technology's system handles procurement, fee collection and financial reconciliation and invoice payments. The system also uses Web-based and telephone services to supplement its satellite offices, the company said. Through the system, state officials will be able to generate reports for data analysis in each county.

Integrated Biometric Technology offers enrollment services for background checks and has fingerprinting centers in seven states.
