Westar nabs Army aviation test center deal

Westar Aerospace & Defense Group Inc. won a five-year, $21 million contract to deliver support and IT services to the Army Aviation Technical Test Center.

Under the contract, Westar of St. Louis will furnish data and IT services, multimedia support and preparation and administrative and logistics tasks.

Westar has been the prime contractor for the test center's support and data services since 1995. The company helps the center plan, conduct, analyze and report on the development and qualifications of aircraft, aviation systems and related equipment.

Based at Fort Rucker, Ala., the center is the Army's aviation development flight-test organization. It evaluates rotary and fixed-wing aircraft and their related aviation systems and equipment.

Westar offers engineering, software solutions, logistics and IT support services to the Defense Department, allied governments and commercial customers.

The company, which has 1,100 employees and annual revenue of more than $200 million, ranks No. 94 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors. Westar is a unit of QinetiQ Group plc, a Farnborough, United Kingdom.
