BAE wins $482M future-warfare center deal

BAE Systems Inc. will deliver comprehensive systems integration and engineering services to the Space and Missile Defense Command for its future-warfare center under a 10-year contract potentially worth $482 million. The value at time of award is $132 million.

Under the contract, BAE Systems of Rockville, Md., will focus on system and subsystem integration and engineering as well as analysis to support the future-warfare center. The contract covers concept development and command and control systems integration. In addition, the company will handle operations and maintenance, develop prototypes and furnish development support.

The Concepts and Operations for Space and Missile Defense Integration Capabilities program, or Cosmic, covers future concept development and command and control systems integration. It addresses support services in combat development, force development and system engineering and doctrine. Other services called for in the contract include organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel as well as facilities.

The company will perform the work in Colorado Springs, Colo., Huntsville, Ala. and the Washington area.

The future-warfare center designs, develops and evaluates innovative concepts and capabilities falling within the Strategic Command's mission areas. The center was formed by combining several organizations concentrating on innovative force and battlefield technologies.
