BAE Systems refuels for Navair communications

BAE Systems won a contract potentially worth $109 million from the Naval Air Systems Command to continue delivering communications electronics support.

BEA Systems of Rockville, Md., will help Navair's Special Communications Requirements division furnish maintenance, training, upgrades and other support for special-purpose communications electronics systems.

The contract has an initial value of $20.6 million for one year, and will support the Navy as well as other government agencies, including the Homeland Security Department.

The defense company performs most of the work at more than a dozen field technical units near key Navair sponsors throughout the United States and overseas. BAE provides field engineers, electronics technicians, trainers and logistics specialists who deliver customized support to users.

BAE Systems has about 45,000 employees and posted 2005 revenue of $10 billion. The company ranks No. 11 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
