CSC wins $3.7B U.K. health care IT services deal

Computer Sciences Corp. will lead a team that will furnish IT services to the United Kingdom's National Health Service in three of five regions through a contract potentially worth $3.7 billion over nine years.

Under the contract, CSC will continue delivering IT services to the United Kingdom's north west and west midlands regional cluster, as well as takeover from Accenture Ltd. the responsibility of local service provider to the north east cluster and the eastern regional cluster.

To prepare for the new contract, Accenture Ltd. will transfer its main contractual obligations within those two regions to CSC by Jan. 8, 2007, CSC said in a statement.

Local service providers for the National Health Services' Connecting for Health program supply and maintain key applications at a local level, guarantee that local systems comply with national standards and ensure that data flows freely between local and national systems, according to the United Kingdom's National Health Service Web site.

CSC, which has about 78,000 employees and had a fiscal 2005 revenue of $14.6 billion, ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
