Abacus launches into Air Force communications work

Abacus Technology Corp. won a five-year, $15 million contract from the Air Force to furnish IT support services to F.E. Warren Air Force Base.

Terms of the small business set-aside contract call for Abacus to deliver base-wide support for the 90th Space Wing and 90th Communications Squadron at the Wyoming installation, the company said.

The company will team on the contract with Multimax Corp. of Herndon, Va.; Verizon Communications Inc. of New York; and WFI Government Services Inc. of San Diego.

The team will supply operations and maintenance support for several functional areas, including the network control center, base communications center and the technical control facility and primary systems control facility.

The companies also will support the small computer maintenance, computer systems management and telephone operations and maintenance functions.

The contract also covers base cable maintenance, ground radio maintenance and land mobile radio maintenance, as well as secure communications maintenance and multimedia and administrative communications.

Abacus of Chevy Chase, which still counts as a small business under certain federal contracting codes, graduated from the Small Business Administration's 8(a) Business Development program in 1995.
