Get counting: Apogen to aid Census Bureau

Apogen Technologies Inc. won two nine-year contracts worth a combined $5.5 million from the Commerce Department to provide Web-based applications development and computer programming support to the Census Bureau.

Under the Web Application and Development Support contract, Apogen will supply Java application programming and maintenance services support for the agency's Web-based computer aided telephone interviewing system. This system helps collect and track data from phone interviews. More than 300 employees in the three Census Bureau call centers use the system. The contract, worth more than $3 million, is for one year with eight option years.

In the second contract, Apogen will provide computer programming support for the Census Bureau's address update system and its demographic area address list system. Apogen will help the agency use the systems to update the inventory of housing units and feature information for specific areas of the U.S., as well as help complete address lists for rural areas. The contract, worth more than $2.5 million is for one year with eight option years.
