AT&T wins $250M DOD telecom and data deal

AT&T Government Solutions won a 10-year, $250 million contract from the Defense Department to supply customized telecommunications and data services to military departments in Hawaii.

The Joint Hawaii Information Transfer System, or JHITS, replaces the Hawaii Information Transfer Systems program that provides interbase and intrabase switched services, dedicated transmission services, network management, administrative operations and maintenance of a leased-switch network.

AT&T is the incumbent on HITS, which expires in February 2007. The company won the original contract in February 1997.

The new contract was awarded by the Defense Information Technology Contracting Office ? Pacific, part of the Defense Information Systems Agency.

AT&T Government Solutions of Vienna, Va., which supplies telecom and information technology services for the federal government, is a unit of AT&T Inc. of San Antonio.

The parent company ranks No. 31 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
