FBI re-ups ATS for information operations center work

Advanced Technology Systems Inc. won a $2.4 million contract from the FBI to continue supporting information systems at the agency's Strategic Information and Operations Center in Washington.

Under the contract, Advanced Technology Systems of McLean, Va., will manage IT efforts that include server administration, e-mail administration, and application development and maintenance for the next three years.

ATS has worked with the FBI for eight years, company officials said.

The FBI's Strategic Information and Operations Center is a 40,000 square foot crisis management and information processing center, staffed 24 hours per day to provide oversight of all major crisis and emergency operations in the United States.

The center is designed to monitor, coordinate, and control multiple FBI operations conducted at various national security classification levels simultaneously. The center also works around the clock to process and share tips submitted through the FBI Web site, helping to prevent potential crises, cyber attacks, global crimes, and terrorist acts.

In 1998, ATS designed and deployed both the classified and unclassified information systems supporting the newly built center. The company has provided support at the center during events such as the U.S. embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, criminal investigations in Kosovo, Year 2000 Rollover and the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
