Apogen inks 'Federal City' consulting deal

Apogen Technologies will help transform the Naval Support Activity site in New Orleans under a six-month contract the company won with the Algiers Development District.

The $46,000 consulting contract will focus on turning the site into a federal government high-tech headquarters complex called Federal City. The project will be overseen by former Marine Maj. Gen. David Mize, a senior vice president with Apogen.

The project is part of the Louisiana Federal City initiative to build state-of-the-art headquarters buildings on the Naval Support Activity base for the military and other federal tenants that have homeland security responsibilities.

Among the possible tenants are the Marine Forces Reserve, Coast Guard and the Army Reserve. The Marine Forces Reserve serves as the national headquarters of the Marine Corps Reserve.

The buildings will have tight perimeter security with the latest force protection and hurricane standards incorporated.

The New Orleans facility had been slated for closure during 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process. This decision was overturned after the BRAC Commission agreed with Louisiana's Federal City plan.

Apogen Technologies, which is a subsidiary of QinetiQ Group, ranks No. 51 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT prime contractors.
