The Transportation Department is looking to the private sector for help with certain financial-management support functions.

In a recent notice, DOT said the winning bidder will provide a host of financial-management support services, including asset management, computer and financial-management systems hosting, telephony, network infrastructure and monitoring, and data center operations.

Responses are due May 31, and DOT hopes the winning bidder will start work by Aug. 1. The solicitation is limited to small businesses.

A handful of other agencies have outsourced financial-management functions to the private sector, including the Labor Department, which earlier this year awarded a five-year contract to Mythics Inc. of Virginia Beach, Va., for financial-management hosting, operation and maintenance services, which includes hardware, software, network and patching.

In its solicitation, DOT said it is looking for a contractor to help consolidate the IT aspect of its financial-management system as it readies for its move to a new building later this year.

"The objective of this solicitation is to obtain contractor services and expertise for the business and technical management support to [Office of CIO IT Services] programs, the new building projects and programmatic activities relating directly to customer requirements," the RFP said. "This contract must allow support expansion of these resources to accommodate new legislative mandates and/or customer-driven requirements."
