Lockheed Martin dives into Navy sub systems

Lockheed Martin Corp. won a $17.4 million contract from the Navy to support a program that oversees all technical products for submarine combat systems.

Under the contract, Lockheed Martin of Bethesda, Md., will handle systems engineering, testing, integration and maintenance for Navy submarine combat systems, as well as new Virginia Class submarines. The contract, which is funded for the first year, includes options for up to 10 years.

Lockheed Martin's team includes General Dynamics Electric Boat, Anteon International Corp., Progeny Systems Corp., Gryphon Technologies LC, Assett Inc., and North Carolina A&T State University.

To ensure project success, Lockheed Martin plans to develop strategic relationships with multiple industrial and academic partners in support of the Navy's Combat System Warfare Federated Tactical Systems, as the project is known.

The team members' labs, facilities and personnel will be connected through a secure wide area network that will accommodate work across a wide geographic area.

Lockheed Martin has more than 130,000 employees and had annual sales of $37.2 billion in fiscal 2005. The company ranks No. 1 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal IT prime contractors. The 2006 Top 100 list will be released May 15.
