DRS wins new Army communications work in Iraq

DRS Technologies Inc. has won a two-year, $222 million contract from the Army to supply communications services to the Multi-National Forces military command in Iraq.Under the contract, DRS of Parsippany, N.J., will perform program management, architectural design and engineering and installation work. In addition, the company will provide operation and maintenance, network management and systems administration support for the communications infrastructure.The contract follows other work previously awarded to the company in 2005 and 2004. Under the recent contract, $16 million has been released so far, the company said.DRS Technical & Management Services Co. unit of Beltsville, Md., and DRS Spacelink International unit in Dulles, Va., will carry out the work. DRS teammates include Raytheon Co., Artel Inc., Information Management Group and Oberon Associates Inc.The company's program management office in Fort Monmouth, N.J., has managed the contract since its inception.Multi-National Forces-Iraq is the coalition military command responsible for providing security in Iraq and assisting with the ongoing reconstruction program.DRS of Parsippany, N.J., has about 10,000 employees and had annual sales of $1.3 billion in 2005.
