CAE lands Army training and simulation database work

CAE USA Inc. won a $17.8 million contract from the Army to develop the common database architecture for simulation-based training exercises and establish database production facilities. The contract value could reach $59 million if all options are exercised.

Under the contract, formally known as the Synthetic Environment Core Database Virtual Environment Development, CAE will create a common database architecture, database production process and tools.

The company also will set up and operate five database production centers in the United States and abroad. The database production centers will establish the Army's Common Virtual Environment for virtual training exercises and mission rehearsals involving ground, aviation and joint forces.

The company will design the master database architecture for the Synthetic Environment Core, furnish the required software tools for database generation, staff the database generation facilities and supply associated professional and consulting services.

CAE's team includes CAE-owned Terrain Experts Inc., Lockheed Martin Corp., Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp., Arinc Inc. and SecureInfo Corp.

CAE of Tampa, Fla., is a unit of CAE Inc., Montreal. The company makes flight simulators and trainers for military and civilian planes and helicopters.
