M/A-Com in deal for Las Vegas Police wireless radio system

M/A-Com won a $9.8 million contract to build a wireless, interoperable radio system for the Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas.

M/A-Com of Lowell, Mass., will deploy its OpenSky radio network to provide the department with voice and data.

OpenSky is a private communications network based on IP technologies that will connect internally the department's force of more than 2,000 officers and furnish interoperability with other agencies and surrounding jurisdictions. The system can accommodate as many as 12,000 users.

Using a series of network gateways, the department's OpenSky system also will interoperate with Nevada's Shared Radio System, which extends across major counties.

M/A-Com is a unit of Tyco Electronics Corp., which is one of five business segments of Tyco International Ltd., Princeton, N.J. The parent company has more than 250,000 employees and had annual sales of $40 billion in fiscal 2005.
