Gateway inks Tennessee notebook PC deal

Gateway Inc. won a statewide contract worth about $6.4 million from Tennessee to furnish notebook PCs to local governments and educational institutions.

The competitively awarded contract is for three years with a one-year renewal option.

Gateway of Irvine will make available to qualified buyers its business class and convertible notebooks. Local governments, educational institutions and other not-for-profit, state-run organizations are among those qualified to purchase under the statewide contract.

The contract offers preferred pricing on the Gateway E-series professional line of notebook products, including the M250, M460 and M280.

The ultimate value of the contract depends on the purchasing decisions by individual agencies, Gateway said.

Gateway has more than 1,900 employees and had annual sales of $3.8 billion in fiscal 2005.
