ACS sets up New Mexico immunization registry

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has deployed its first statewide immunization system in New Mexico.

ACS of Dallas won a $1.2 million contract in November to help the state install, customize and deploy the immunization registry. The company partnered on the project with Scientific Technologies Corp., Tucson, Ariz.

The contracting team will now work with the state to enhance system and reporting capabilities, and make other improvements and upgrades.

New Mexico law requires children to be immunized against certain diseases before they can attend a child-care facility or enter school. The registry stores immunization data on diseases that can be prevented by vaccine.

Although this is the company's first implementation of a statewide immunization system, it has furnished registry systems to several military bases for the Defense Department.

ACS has more than 55,000 employees and had annual sales of $4.3 billion in fiscal 2005. The company ranks No. 51 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
