Unisys inks New Zealand driver's licensing deal

The New Zealand government will continue to rely on Unisys Corp. to collect and safeguard the country's vehicle and driver information.

Unisys of Blue Bell, Pa., signed a seven-year, $53 million outsourcing contract with Land Transport New Zealand to provide infrastructure and IT management services for the Landata and Drivers License Register systems, which contain the country's vehicle and driver's license information.

The infrastructure systems and services will allow Land Transport New Zealand to manage registry functions and collect money on behalf of the government.

The systems covered are the Motor Vehicle Registry, Road User Charges System, Land Transport Inspection System, and Driver License Register. Unisys has worked with Land Transport New Zealand for 13 years.

Unisys has about 36,000 employees and had annual revenue of $5.8 billion in fiscal 2004. The company ranks No. 22 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
