L-3 Communications Inc. has acquired two companies, one a maker of fusion and tracking systems, and the other a provider of aircraft and avionics systems engineering services, for its Integrated Systems Group. Terms of both deals were not disclosed.
New York-based L-3 acquired Advanced System Architectures Ltd. of Alton, England, a niche systems engineering and software developer of multisensor fusion and tracking systems, primarily for challenging targets, such as cruise and ballistic missiles and military aircraft. The company also makes interoperability communication systems for defense applications.
The acquisition is expected to add about $10 million to L-3's sales in 2006. The business, which will be renamed L-3 ASA, will become part of the company's command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance segment.
In the second deal, L-3 picked up TCS Design and Management Services of Warner Robbins, Ga., a company focused on fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft and avionics systems engineering services for the Air Force Special Operations community. The company furnishes software development and integration, modification, testing, documentation, inspection and depot maintenance services to both aerospace contractors and the Army.
The acquisition is expected to add $45 million to L-3's sales in 2006. The business, to be renamed L-3 TCS, will become part of L-3's Aircraft Modernization and Maintenance segment.
L-3 Communications has more than 44,200 employees and had annual sales of $6.9 billion in fiscal 2004. The company ranks No. 15 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
