Cambridge Communications wins Puerto Rico wideband deal

Cambridge Communications Systems Inc. won a 10-year contract from the Defense Information Systems Agency to provide transmission and telecommunications support in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The contract is worth between $10 million to $15 million, the company said.

Under the Puerto Rico Area Wideband System II contract, or Praws II, the company will support operations and maintenance support for microwave and terrestrial communications networks that connect various government locations within the Caribbean Basin region.

The Praws network provides reliable DISA network services in Puerto Rico, Vieques, St. Thomas and St. Croix for a range of Defense and Homeland Security department users and local clients, including the U.S. Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Air National Guard and Federal Aviation Administration.

It supports a variety of missions, including customs and border patrol, commercial and military aviation coordination, and Army National Guard support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The Praws II contract begins on March 1. Cambridge Communications was a subcontractor on the Praws I contract, which expires on Feb. 28.
