Sheaffer to head CSC's fed sector business

James "Jim" Sheaffer is the new leader of Computer Sciences Corp.'s federal sector business.

Sheaffer replaces Paul Cofoni, who retired from CSC in August and subsequently was appointed president of Arlington, Va.-based CACI International Inc.'s federal division.

Sheaffer has served at CSC since 2003 as vice president of Internal Revenue Service programs for the Federal Sector Civil Group, and was general manager for the Prime Alliance, CSC's partnership with IRS to modernize the federal tax system.

He will report directly to CSC President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Laphen.

Sheaffer joined CSC following a 27-year career at American Management Systems Inc., where he served from 1998 to 2002 as senior vice president and chief operating officer for AMS' telecommunications industry practice in North America and Europe. He led the company's entry into the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions.

From 1990 to 1998, Sheaffer served as European general manager. Before that, he established and led AMS' IT consulting and service practice with the Defense Department and managed projects for the departments of Energy, Labor, and Housing and Urban Development, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency and the General Accounting Office.

Sheaffer holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. He also served as an officer in the Navy.
