NARA looks to industry for records management components

The National Archives and Records Administration is looking for industry input in the development of software components for a records management system that the agency hopes will standardize how the government maintains official records.

In a request for information, NARA gave interested parties until Nov. 10 to review and provide comments on the agency's service components for records management in a components-based architecture, as outlined in a technical report released in July. The service components include record capture, authenticity, case file and disposition.

The RFI is part of the agency's market outreach in assessing the completeness of records management requirements for placement on the Component Organization and Registration Environment Website, the Office of Management and Budget's central repository for shared-service components.

Under a components-based architecture system, software solutions or components for certain government responsibilities, like records management, will be available at CORE.gov for all agencies. Using this platform should drive down IT costs across the government, officials hope.
