Cubic wins Marine Corps aviation simulator deal

Cubic Corp. won a five-year, $43.4 million task order from the Naval Air Systems Command to supply the Marine Corps with instructors and operations and maintenance services for aviation simulators.

Under the Marine Corps' Aircrew Training Systems program, Cubic's defense applications business unit will operate and maintain virtual simulators at six Marine Corps installations in the United States. The simulators include flights, radar night attack, weapons systems, maintenance, procedures and multitask trainers.

The task order was awarded under an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract that Cubic and 10 other contractors received earlier this year through the Navy's Fielded Training Systems Support II program. The companies are competing with each other for task orders to provide a range of support services at Navy and Marine Corps sites worldwide.

Based in San Diego, Cubic makes combat training systems for the military and automatic fare-collection systems for public mass transit authorities. The company employs about 5,700 workers and ranks No. 77 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
