General Dynamics ropes pair of defense deals
General Dynamics Corp. won two contracts from the Air Force and the Navy for a secure, scalable, second-generation wireless local area network and eight Small Ship Electronic Surveillance Systems, respectively.
General Dynamics Corp. won two contracts totaling $5.7 million from the Air Force and Navy, the company announced this week.
Under a $1.5 million Air Force contract, General Dynamics Network Systems will design, develop and deploy a secure, scalable, second-generation wireless local area network that integrates within any base, major command or Air Force enterprise network.
The network will be used by the Air Force Combat Information Transport System located at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.
GD Network Systems' team includes BAE Systems Inc., CACI International Inc., Harris Corp., LTI DataComm Inc. and Presidio Corp.
In a second $4.2 million contract with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Charleston, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems will provide eight Small Ship Electronic Surveillance Systems.
The systems are intended to improve operator situational awareness by adding electronic support capabilities, as well as special signal detection, processing capabilities, network-centric warfare capabilities and display enhancements.
The company will perform the work in Fairfax, Va., and begin delivery in August 2006.
General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems and Network Systems are units of General Dynamics Corp. of Falls Church, Va.
The parent company, which has 70,800 employees and annual sales of $19.2 billion, ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
