Alion wins Army helicopter, UAV work

Alion Science and Technology Corp. won a $5 million contract with the Army Aviation and Missile Command for process technology of replacement parts for Army helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicle weapon systems.

Process technology refers to manufacturing techniques, and covers everything from the equipment to methodology.

Alion of McLean, Va., will work with the Army to develop new ways to use technology and manufacturing techniques to reduce the time and cost of making replacement parts while improving quality, the company said.

The goal of the contract is to increase Army aviation readiness by easing the production of hard to acquire parts through advanced designs and processing technologies. These technologies are expected to result in lower costs, shorter lead time, and higher quality parts and assemblies.

Alion has about 2,600 employees and annual sales of $269.9 million.
