CSSI, Evolve win Navy air traffic control deals

Two companies won a three-year, $3 million-plus contract from the U.S. Navy to develop an air traffic control simulation program to be used to train Navy and Marine Corps air traffic controllers.

CSSI Inc. of Washington and Evolve Inc. of Parkland, Fla., were awarded the contract by the Naval Air Systems Command Training Systems Division in Orlando, Fla. The companies will work together to develop, produce, install, test and provide logistics services for the Improved Precision Approach Radar Trainer System.

The system will be deployed at several Navy air traffic control facilities to train Navy and Marine air traffic controllers on close-in and precision-approach radar system techniques. Precision-approach radar is a transportable, computerized, three-dimensional radar system that uses phase and frequency scanning techniques with an electronically steered beam antenna array.

CSSI is a privately owned transportation and engineering services firm with 220 employees. The company has additional offices in Lexington Park, Md., Atlantic City, N.J., and Charleston, S.C. Its clients include the Defense Department, the Federal Aviation Administration, NASA and the U.S. and international aviation industries. CSSI had revenue of $23 million in 2004.

Evolve is a small business that provides leadership and management development and business improvement services. The Navy is a new customer for the company.
