Accenture wins Marine Corps supply chain deal
Accenture Ltd. has won a contract from the Marine Corps to design and implement the service's new global supply chain and maintenance system.
Accenture Ltd. has won a contract from the Marine Corps to design and implement the service's new global supply chain and maintenance system, the company announced this week. The first phase of the work will take six months and is valued at $4.5 million.
Under the contract, Accenture of Hamilton, Bermuda, will provide planning and analysis for the Marine Corps' Global Combat Support System, which will be based on Oracle's E-Business Suite applications.
The new system is part of a program designed to modernize the Corps' logistics, supply chain planning, procurement and maintenance service capabilities. The system also is expected to improve the tracking, transport and distribution of supplies from support units to Corps forces around the world.
The Global Combat Support System is designed to provide interoperability with other Defense Department organizations; give Marine Corps personnel worldwide access to supply chain and maintenance information; and reduce carrying costs, wait times for supplies and services, and training time.
Accenture has more than 110,000 employees and annual sales of $13.5 billion. The company ranks No. 25 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
