Markland wins sensor work

Markland Technologies Inc. won $3.9 million in new orders from the U.S. Army's Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate for new technology solutions, the company said today.

The orders were awarded under a five-year omnibus contract to E-OIR Technologies Inc., a wholly owned Markland subsidiary that provides electro-optic and infrared remote sensing technology and services. E-OIR has received a total of about $56.8 million under the omnibus contract. The contract has a potential total value of approximately $406 million.

Markland is working on next-generation technology solutions for the Army that include night vision and advanced sensor applications, disposable sensors and other threat-detection systems. Many of the products and services delivered under the omnibus contract use next-generation electro-optic and infrared sensor technologies that support U.S. military combat operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Based in Fort Belvoir, Va., the Army's Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate is an R&D center for night vision and other sensor technologies.

Markland, of Ridgefield, Conn., provides emerging technologies and related services for defense and homeland security agencies. The company has 191 employees and had 2004 revenue of $6 million, according to Hoover's Online.
