DOD picks BearingPoint for payroll system

BearingPoint Inc. will provide technical and transitional assistance to the MilPay Systems Transition Program Office as it develops the military's new payroll system, said officials from the McLean, Va.-based company.
The base period of the contract is worth $2.8 million, Bearing Point officials said. If all four options are exercised, the contract could be worth $14.5 million. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service Acquisition Management Office awarded the contract.
The MilPay Systems Transition Program Office has been charged with providing enhanced payroll services for the Army, Navy and Air Force. The office is developing the Forward Compatible Payroll system to serve as an interim military payroll solution until the integrated personnel and payroll system, the Defense Integrated Military Human Resources System, is implemented.
The Forward Compatible Payroll system combines several commercial off-the-shelf components, including Oracle's PeopleSoft Global Payroll, CleverPath Aion Business Rules engine and the webMethods Integration Platform.
Under the contract, BearingPoint will provide technical and transitional support services for pay warehouse design and development, accounting/disbursing support, payroll system development, integration of system components, program support, and training and training development support.
BearingPoint is ranked No. 24 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of the largest government IT contractors.
