TSA awards cargo-tracking system grant

I.D. Systems Inc. won a grant from the Transportation Security Administration to integrate RFID-based tracking into the company's Wireless Asset Net vehicle security and tracking system.

I.D. Systems Inc. was awarded a grant from the Transportation Security Administration to integrate RFID-based tracking into the company's Wireless Asset Net vehicle security and tracking system.

I.D. Systems officials did not release the exact value of the grant, but said it is less than $1 million. I.D. Systems is in Hackensack, N.J.

I.D. Systems will develop and prototype a mobile, automated baggage tracking system in which containers and vehicles identify and locate items tagged with electronic product code-compliant radio-frequency identifier tags, and communicate that data through I.D. Systems' wireless vehicle management network.

To support the RFID integration, I.D. Systems will collaborate with Symbol Technologies Inc., a provider of data capture, mobile computing, wireless infrastructure and RFID technology. Symbol Technologies will provide EPC-compliant RFID tags and readers.
