Lucent Technologies wins Army work

Lucent Technologies Inc. won several contracts worth $36.3 million to provide network integration and professional services at Army installations in North America and Europe, the company said yesterday.

The services will support the Army's Installation Information Infrastructure Modernization Program to upgrade the voice and data network infrastructure at Army bases around the world.

The Army contracts include three U.S. bases at Fort Gordon and Fort Benning in Georgia and Schofield Enclave in Hawaii and three Army bases in Germany at Husterhohe Kaserne, Pulaski Barracks and Kleber Kaserne.

Lucent Technologies will provide these bases with installation and ongoing maintenance services for the new communications infrastructure that ties together voice switches and high-speed optical and data equipment.

"The bottom line is that by creating robust, next-generation networks, we are enabling critical communications and information to flow seamlessly between the military bases and ultimately to troops in the field," said Rick Miller, president of Lucent Technologies' government solutions division.

Based in Murray Hill, N.J., Lucent Technologies develops systems, services and software for communications networks. The company employs approximately 31,800 workers and had revenue of more than $9 billion for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2004. It is No. 78 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors, a ranking based on information technology revenue.
