Cubic wins Army laser training work

Cubic Corp. has won a $16 million subcontract from Tec-Masters Inc. to provide additional laser systems to troops stationed at Fort Polk, La., the company announced this week.

Cubic of San Diego will offer multiple, integrated laser engagement systems (Miles) 2000 components for dismounted and anti-tank weapon systems. The orders supplement 8,000 Miles 2000 systems that have been delivered to Fort Polk to date.

The equipment will support training rotations at the Joint Readiness Training Center, the Army's top training center for light infantry and special operations units.

The deliveries to the Joint Readiness Training Center will begin in December and continue through May 2006. They include vests and simulators for weapons such as M16A2/M4 rifles, M2 heavy machine guns, M24 sniper rifles and AT-4 weapons.

The Army's program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation awarded the contract to Cubic through Tec-Masters Inc. of Huntsville, Ala.

Cubic has delivered more than 60,000 Miles 2000 systems to customers worldwide since 1997. Over the past two years, the company has received about $100 million worth of orders for Miles 2000.

Cubic has more than 5,700 employees and annual sales of $722 million. The company ranks No. 71 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
