CSSI snares $35 million FAA contract

CSSI Inc. won a five-year, $35 million contract from the Federal Aviation Administration for research, engineering, analysis and policy support, the company said yesterday.

CSSI will provide support for the FAA's Office of Operations Planning System Engineering, Office of Environment and Energy, and Airports Community and Environmental Needs Division.

For the Office of Operations Planning System Engineering, CSSI will develop advanced communications, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management concepts and look at new technologies to implement these concepts. The company also may provide analyses, systems engineering and other technical requirements for implementing new operational concepts in the National Airspace System.

For the Office of Environment and Energy, CSSI will develop and implement national aviation policy related to environmental and energy matters. The company may develop programs to reduce adverse impacts on the environment while maintaining the efficiency and capacity of the National Airspace System. CSSI also will continue to enhance FAA's Emissions and Dispersion Modeling System, which the company developed and has maintained since 1995.

For the Airports Community and Environmental Needs Division, CSSI will assist airports in implementing the National Environmental Policy Act and other federal laws and regulations.

Based in Washington, CSSI is a privately owned transportation and engineering services firm with 220 employees. The company also has offices in Lexington Park, Md., Atlantic City, N.J., and Charleston, S.C. Its other clients include the U.S. and international aviation industries, NASA and the Defense Department. CSSI had 2004 revenue of $23 million.
