BAE wins $56 million in Navy contracts

BAE Systems North American Inc. won two contracts worth a total of about $56 million from the Naval Sea Systems Command to provide technical services for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division in Newport, R.I., the company said today.

Under the first contract, worth about $49 million, BAE Systems will offer research, development, test and evaluation support to the division's engineering, test and evaluation department, including the towed array and evaluation facility. BEA has supported these programs since 1984.

Under the second contract, worth about $7 million, BAE Systems will perform engineering and technical services for the division's special projects office. The company will provide these services in operations support, concept analysis, system-level design and development, integration testing, installation support, training, performance evaluation and logistic support. BAE Systems has supported this program since 1992.

Based in Rockville, Md., BAE Systems North America Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of BAE Systems PLC of Farnborough, United Kingdom. The parent company, the largest foreign player in the U.S. defense market, employs 97,500 people worldwide and had 2004 revenue of nearly $25.7 billion.

The company's North America unit designs, manufactures and supports advanced aerospace products for the federal and commercial sectors. It employs more than 30,000 workers and generates more than $5 billion in annual revenue. BAE Systems North American is No. 12 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors. The 2005 Top 100 list will be published May 9.
