IBM wins Texas voter registration work

IBM Corp. has won a $12 million contract from Texas for a statewide voter registration system, the company announced today.

IBM, of Armonk, N.Y., will design, configure and deploy the voter registration infrastructure for the system. It will include key features such as validation and verification of voter information, standardized security, data analysis and reporting capabilities, and geographic information system capabilities for spatial analysis.

IBM's main subcontractor on the project, Hart InterCivic Inc. of Austin, Texas, will provide voter registration and election management software. It will help the Texas secretary of state and local election offices comply with the Help America Vote Act of 2002. The act requires all states to have a centralized voter registration database by 2006.

IBM has more than 255,000 employees and annual sales of $89.1 billion. The company was ranked No. 11 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of government IT contractors.
