EF Johnson lands $1.6 million order from Defense Dept.

EF Johnson has received a $1.6 million order to supply the Defense Department with Project 25 digital radios and accessories, officials from the Irving, Texas, company said.

EF Johnson, a subsidiary of EFJ Inc., provides two-way radios and communication systems for law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical staff and the military.

Project 25 is an initiative for selecting voluntary, common system standards for digital public-safety radio communications. The standards focus on making radios interoperable and how to best use scarce frequencies.

The standards are aimed at avoiding communications problems that different agencies often experience in disaster situations, for example.
