Raytheon wins missile defense work

Raytheon Co. won a $151.3 million Army contract extension to support engineering services for the Patriot air and missile defense program, officials from the Waltham, Mass., company said.

The award from the Army Aviation and Missile Command is for the first of four one-year options on a contract won last year, officials said. The support includes system and software engineering, hardware engineering, quality assurance, configuration management, system testing, logistic support and program management.

The contract funds integration of several hardware and software improvements developed by separately funded programs. Patriot provides long-range, all-weather, air defense capability to counter tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and aircraft.

The contract also calls for engineering services tasks to be performed in support of foreign military customers associated with the Patriot program.

Raytheon is the prime contractor for the Patriot system and the system integrator for the Configuration 3 system that includes the PAC-3 missile. The company ranks No. 7 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of government contractors.
