Former Utah CIO joins CGI-AMS

CGI-AMS has hired former Utah Chief Information Officer Val Oveson as vice president of strategic business development, the company announced this week. Oveson resigned from his CIO position Dec. 31.

Oveson will draw on 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors to lead the Fairfax, Va.-based company's strategic business development initiatives for its federal, state and local consulting practices.

He was appointed Utah CIO by Gov. Mike Leavitt (R) in January 2003. Oveson was responsible for developing and implementing the state's e-government strategy as well as various statewide technology projects aimed at improving workflow and business practices.

The state added 100 new Web-based government services and implemented an enterprise strategic plan under his leadership, according to CGI-AMS.

Before serving as Utah's CIO, Oveson was a managing director at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC of New York, where he led the knowledge management function for the state and local tax group. Before joining PWC, he was National Taxpayer Advocate with the Internal Revenue Service

Oveson has held various positions in the Utah government, including chairman of the Utah State Tax Commission, a two-term lieutenant governor and state auditor.
