Alion picks up Carmel Applied Technologies

Alion Science and Technology Corp. has acquired Carmel Applied Technologies Inc., a developer and integrator of systems to produce 3-D visuals for flight simulators, Alion officials said.

Alion of from McLean, Va., is a technology solutions company that primarily serves the Defense. Department Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition of CATI of Seaside, Calif., is designed to add to Alion's modeling and simulation resources. CATI's XIG image-generation software offers an OpenFlight and OpenGL compliant image-generation system, capable of providing real-time visual and sensor displays of the outside environment.

The technology uses databases created from U.S. government geographic data and realistic models of land, water, buildings and roads.

Alion is ranked No. 55 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of government contractors.
