Washington county taps Tiburon for dispatch system

Tiburon Inc. has won a $2.5 million contract from King County, Wash., to enhance its public safety operations, the company announced this week.

Under the contract, Tiburon of Fremont, Calif., will provide King County with a computer-aided dispatch system and a mobile dispatch system to support the county's law enforcement operations.

The new system, which features a mobile communications component that includes mobile mapping and automated vehicle location for all units, will enable dispatchers to respond to 911 calls and manage them more efficiently.

The system will be installed in a new facility which houses the county's 911 center and Office of Emergency Management.

King County, which is located on the Puget Sound and includes the greater Seattle metropolitan area, covers more than 2,200 square miles and has a population of 1.7 million.

Tiburon, a provider of automated public safety and justice systems for law enforcement, fire and rescue, corrections and justice sectors, is a unit of CompuDyne Corp. of Annapolis, Md. The company has about 850 employees and annual sales of $193.3 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
