TSA taps IBT for hazmat fingerprinting

Integrated Biometric Technology LLC has won a contract from the Transportation Security Administration to provide electronic fingerprinting services for truck drivers handling hazardous materials, the company announced this week.

The two-year contract is expected to be worth between $50 million to $75 million, the company said. Under the contract, IBT of Nashville will install a nationwide fingerprint network that will let truckers complete the fingerprinting process quickly.

IBT's team includes Lockheed Martin Corp.; Bethesda, Md.; Hewlett Packard Co., Palo Alto, Calif.; U.S. Investigations Services, Annandale, Pa.; Logista Solutions, Columbus, Miss.; Automated License Systems Inc., Nashville; and Examination Management Services Inc., Dallas.

The Patriot Act requires an extensive background check on truck drivers who carry or want to obtain a hazardous material endorsement. The process requires drivers to obtain a set of fingerprints that can be sent to the FBI database in Clarksburg, W.Va., for a criminal history check.

IBT offers electronic fingerprinting solutions to airports, banks and military and civilian agencies.
