Raytheon wins radar support work

Raytheon Co. won a five-year, $93.9 million contract from the U.S. Navy to provide mission support for relocatable-over-the-horizon-radar systems, the company said today.

The radar system, known as ROTHR, was originally designed to provide tactical warning of air and surface threats at an extended range. The Navy also operates the high-frequency radar systems for counter-narcotics surveillance.

Under the contract, Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC of Reston, Va., will provide operation and maintenance, engineering and training services for the radar system. The company subsidiary provides mission support, customized engineering and on-site engineering solutions for defense, federal and commercial clients around the world.

The contract work will be performed in Chesapeake and New Kent, Va.; Freer, Texas; and Fort Allen and Vieques, Puerto Rico, and is expected to be completed by January 2010.

Headquartered in Waltham, Mass., Raytheon employs 78,000 people worldwide and had 2003 revenue of $18.1 billion. The company is No. 7 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
