Agriculture awards animal transport tracking system
SI International Inc. won a $6.8 million task order from the Agriculture Department to provide IT support for the Veterinary Services Processes Streamlining System, which monitors the movement of animals.
SI International Inc. won a $6.8 million task order from the Agriculture Department to provide IT support for the Veterinary Services Processes Streamlining System, SI International said today.
The system is used to monitor transport of animals to enhance food safety and protect against terrorism. The new Web application would improve the tracking of international imports and exports and domestic interstate movements of live animals and animal products across the United States, according to SI.
The system will be designed to help prevent and control animal diseases and to monitor and promote animal health and productivity.
Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded the three-year contract.
SI International of Reston, Va., ranks No. 66 on Washington Technology's Top 100 list of federal IT prime contractors. The company expects to have between $256 million and 258 million in 2004 revenue. In 2003, the SI booked $168.3 million in revenue.
