Commerce taps Systalex for financial system upgrade

Systalex Corp. has won a five-year, $79 million contract to help the Commerce Department upgrade and maintain its financial management system, the company announced today.

Under the contract, Systalex of Rockville, Md., will move data from legacy financial systems to a modern financial management system. The company will replace old line of business systems with e-government systems that will be integrated with the new financial system.

Systalex was one of several contractors on the initial project to build the department's new "Commerce Financial Enterprise Business Systems." After that project was completed, Commerce awarded Systalex a single prime contract to continue on-site support and upgrades of the new system.

The work will be performed by Systalex employees at the agency's project support center in Gaithersburg, Md., as well as other locations. The company's team includes Accenture Ltd. of Hamilton, Bermuda.

The Commerce financial management system handles the flow of financial information, including procurements, contracts, purchase orders and payments, among Commerce and associated bureaus, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Census Bureau.

Once information is stored in the system, bureaus can create reports that support accounting, compliance, management reporting and executive briefings.
