ACS to build public safety system for OK City

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. won a contract to develop an integrated public safety system for Oklahoma City. The six-year contract is worth about $18.8 million, officials of the Dallas company said today.

ACS will integrate and upgrade police, fire and court communication systems and install a wireless communications infrastructure, said Kerry Wagnon, program director for Oklahoma City's Public Safety Capital Projects Office.

ACS will provide system integration and project management services. Its subcontractors are:

*SmartCOP Inc. of Pensacola, Fla., which offers computer-aided dispatch, police records, field reporting and jail management software

*Tropos Networks of Sunnyvale, Calif., which provides high-speed WiFi communications between the city's data center and the mobile police and fire vehicles

*Emergency Technologies Inc. of Raleigh, N.C., which offers fire records management and field reporting software

*Panasonic of Secaucus, N.J., which provides mobile computers for police and fire vehicles.

The project will be complete by December 2005, according to ACS officials.

ACS employs more than 43,000 people and had annual revenue of $3.8 billion in 2003. The company's state and local government work includes electronic toll collection, child support payment collection and electronic benefits transfers.
