AssureTec to steer Mass. ID fraud pilot

AssureTec Systems Inc., a provider of identity management security solutions, is conducting a pilot program for the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles to thwart driver's license and state-issued identification card fraud, the company announced today.

The value of the pilot was not released.

In the first phase of the program, AssureTec of Manchester, N.H., will deploy antifraud systems at four Registry of Motor Vehicles locations in the state as well as at the department's forensics lab in Boston.

When applicants visit one of the upgraded offices to obtain state-issued identification, their proof-of-identity documents will be run through AssureTec's document authentication system for verification.

The system will analyze each document's security features and verify them against a library of authentication attributes. The library includes standard and nonstandard documents, such as passports, visas and driver's licenses.

The system uses a platform of analytical software tools to compare security information extracted from each document against the issuing state's built-in security features. If the document fails the validation process, the system indicates the reason and prompts the operator to better scrutinize the applicant as a potential fraud perpetrator.

The authentication process takes less than five seconds per identification document, the company said.

AssureTec's document authentication system is deployed at a number of U.S. airports, including Los Angeles, Houston, Minneapolis, and as part of the Transportation Security Administration's Registered Traveler Pilot Program.
