L-3 gets major piece of U.S. Visit

L-3 Communications Corp.'s government services division won a three-year task order to provide mission support and information technology for the Homeland Security Department's multibillion-dollar U.S. Visit program, the company said today. The contract is worth a maximum $107.9 million if all options are exercised.

Based in Chantilly, Va., L-3's Government Services Inc. will provide technical support for biometric workstations that will be used to verify the identities of nonimmigrant visa-holders as they leave the United States.

The company will provide this service at all U.S. airports and seaports with international departures as part of the DHS' U.S. Visitor and Immigration Status Indicator Technology program, which tracks the entries and exists of foreign visitors.

The task order was awarded under the General Services Administration's Millennia Lite contract, a multiple-award, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity, governmentwide acquisition contract that provides IT solutions worldwide. The contract has 33 prime contractors with four areas of focus, including IT planning, studies and analysis; high-end IT services; mission support services; and legacy systems migration and new enterprise systems development.

Headquartered in New York, L-3 provides a range of technology-based services, support and products to federal, state and local governments and to the commercial sector. It ranks No. 14 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors. The company employs 38,000 workers and had 2003 revenue of $5.1 billion.
