Energy plugs into EFJ for interoperable communications

EFJ Inc. received a $1 million order from the Energy Department for an interoperable digital communications system, the company said yesterday.

EFJohnson Co., the company's wholly owned subsidiary, will provide the department with its Netelligent Infrastructure Systems Project 25 trunked communications systems, which uses voice over Internet protocol technology, and portable radios.

The company is working under Bechtel Bettis Inc., a subsidiary of Bechtel Corp. of San Francisco, on integrating the communications systems into the Energy Department's site.

EFJohnson offers digital, interoperable, wireless communications systems solutions in homeland security and public safety for federal, state and local agencies. Its Project 25 mobile communications products are compliant with the federal government's interoperability standards.

Headquartered in Lincoln, Neb., and operating out of Washington, D.C., EFJ employs 216 people and had 2003 revenue of $56.2 million.
