Arinc to start managed services business

Aviation and transportation systems integrator Arinc Inc. said today it will form a managed services unit to handle outsourcing of government operations.

Arinc Managed Services LLC will be wholly owned by Annapolis, Md.-based Arinc, but operated separately, company officials said.

James Martin, the parent company's senior director of global maintenance services, will lead the new business.

"Agencies with mission-critical operations have been reluctant to outsource because of the high skill levels required," Martin said. However, with the government committed to more outsourcing, Arinc's expertise in engineering and maintaining communications and other systems puts them in a position to capture business, he said.

Arinc has long operated radio services for the Federal Aviation Administration. The new company plans to leverage that experience for national and local agencies, as well as regional transportation authorities.

Based on Arinc's experience providing systems engineering, services and support to the Army, Navy and Air Force, Arinc Managed Services will also target the Defense Department. The company also intends to focus on interoperability services, public safety and security systems, and wireless networks for government agencies.

"There is a clear need for a fast-moving, yet tested organization to deliver? outsourced management and systems maintenance," Martin said.

The new company will have technical staff in 18 global offices, with operations and a call center in Annapolis.

Arinc ranks No. 30 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list with $328 million in federal prime contracting revenue.
